BLM Campgrounds on Denali and Richardson Highway are Open!  Lakes are 90% ice free!

As of Tuesday, June 18, Round Tangle Lake is mostly ice free and visitors can access the boat ramp and river.  Paxson Lake is now clear of ice!  All BLM campgrounds on the Richardson and Denali Highway are open.

Federal Subsistence Hunters:

The Bureau of Land Management Glennallen Field Office will begin issuing Federal Subsistence Permits for the 2013-14 Unit 13 moose and caribou hunts in mid-July of 2013 to qualified residents during regular business hours.  (Please Note:  Fairbanks District Office no longer issues Unit 13 federal subsistence permits.)  Hunting permits will be issued in Delta Junction July 11 - 13 at the Career Advancement Center.  Applicants need to provide three pieces of identification that show proof of rural residency. You need your current State of Alaska Resident Hunting License, your State of Alaska Driver’s License, and a third proof of rural residency that shows your physical address, such as a voters registration card, phone or electric bill.  If you have any questions contact the Bureau of Land Management Glennallen Field Office at (907) 822-3217.  Learn more>>

Paxson Lake, up to ordinary high water, including its frozen surface during winter months, is under State jurisdiction and therefore is CLOSED to federal subsistence.  Federal subsistence hunters may not take caribou that are standing on the frozen surface of Paxson Lake.  See Map>>
