As of Wednesday, May 15, the following BLM campgrounds along the Denali and Richardson Highways are closed and likely will remain closed through Memorial Day weekend due to cold weather and snow conditions:  Brushkana Creek, Tangle Lakes, Paxson Lake, and Sourdough Creek.  We will continue to update this web page as new information becomes available.  Travelers are urged to check 511.gov.alaska for updates on travel conditions along the Denali Highway.

Federal Subsistence Hunters:

Unit 13 Federal Subsistence caribou season closed March 31.  ALL unit 13 federal caribou hunt reports are due to the BLM Glennallen Field Office by April 15, 2013.  Hunt reports can be mailed or hand-delivered to the office at mile 186.5 Glenn Highway.  There is a drop box available in the front entry way which is open 24 hours per day for your convenience.  You may also call the BLM Glennallen Field Office at 907-822-3217.

The Bureau of Land Management Glennallen Field Office will begin issuing Federal Subsistence Permits for the 2013-14 Unit 13 moose and caribou hunts in mid-July of 2013 to qualified residents during regular business hours.  (Please Note:  Fairbanks District Office will no longer be issuing Unit 13 federal subsistence permits.)  Applicants need to provide three pieces of identification that show proof of rural residency. You need your current State of Alaska Resident Hunting License, your State of Alaska Driver’s License, and a third proof of rural residency that shows your physical address, such as a voters registration card, phone or electric bill.  If you have any questions contact the Bureau of Land Management Glennallen Field Office at (907) 822-3217.  Learn more>>

Paxson Lake, up to ordinary high water, including its frozen surface, is under State jurisdiction and therefore is CLOSED to federal subsistence.  Federal subsistence hunters may not take a caribou that is standing on the frozen surface of Paxson Lake.  See Map>>
