Researcher records discharge in a stream next to a small chamber positioned on the water surface.

This chamber is used by USGS hydrologist John Crawford to measure minute amounts of greenhouse gases coming off the surface of Nome Creek and other surface water in the valley. The researcher in back is recording how much water is flowing in Nome Creek during the gas measurement. USGS photograph by John Crawford.
