In June the Bureau of Land Management rebuilt the popular Crowberry public recreation cabin in the White Mountains National Recreation Area. The original Crowberry Cabin was destroyed by the Boundary Fire in 2004.

BLM staff used a helicopter to transport logs and other building materials to the Crowberry building site late last summer in anticipation of this year's construction project. Between June 18 and June 23, a crew of eight BLM employees rebuilt the cabin, an outhouse, and a woodshed.

The new Crowberry Cabin is 16 feet by 16 feet, considerably larger than the original cabin. It offers a picture window with views of Big Bend and Limestone Jags, two prominent local landmarks.

Information about Crowberry and other cabins in the White Mountains is available on the BLM's White Mountains Web site or by contacting the Bureau of Land Management, Fairbanks District Office, 1150 University Avenue, Fairbanks, AK, 99709. Cabins may be rented at the BLM office or over the telephone by calling 907-474-2251 and using a credit card.
