Anchorage weeds partnership hosts Weeds Fair
Anchorage weed warriors hosted the Invasive Weeds Awareness Fair June 17, 2008, at Russian Jack Park in Anchorage.
The fair was a “ribbon cutting” to announce the recently formed Anchorage Cooperative Weed Management Area group, of which the BLM Anchorage Field Office is a charter member. The fair was held to raise awareness of invasive species and how citizens can get involved. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin signed HB330 (Noxious Weeds and Invasive Plants) into law at this event and presented a proclamation supporting Invasive Weeds Awareness Week, June 23-29.
The BLM Campbell Creek Science Center hosted educational activities for weed warriors of all ages at the fair. The Anchorage Field Office also removed invasive species at Rohn Shelter Cabin on the Iditarod National Historic Trail and the Science Center hosted a Midsummer Night's Science Series program on invasive weeds in observance of Invasive Weeds Awareness Week.
If you'd like more information about invasive species and how you can get involved in the fight to protect Alaska's native vegetation and landscape, contact the Committee for Noxious & Invasive Plants Management (CNIPM).
